Snow Update Weekend of 1/9/2026

Snow Update 1/9/2026

Hello, all of you wonderful people out there!

Over the last two days we threw everything we had at snow removal! Glacier Bay Construction and Fairweather Construction, with a huge assist from Jeff and DOT, absolutely knocked it out of the park! Therefore, they were ready to attack again this morning, having moved tons of snow out of the way. They are doing all they can, but we are again in a "stay put if you can" mode. The roads are sloppy in places and there are berms everywhere. I realize that many people need to get to work, and we so appreciate those who are keeping things running at the Post Office, the airlines, Gustavus Dray, City facilities, and those hardy souls who are making their way to work at the National Park. Thanks to local businesses that have been open when they can for groceries and food service. We need our essential workers and appreciate all they are doing for the community!

The Conservation Lands Advisory Committee has cancelled their public lands exhibit opening scheduled for tonight at the Gustavus Community Center. They have put a lot of work into this exhibit and it looks great...stay tuned for a rescheduled event.

The Library will be open whenever conditions allow; this is dependent on a cleared parking lot and safety concerns. Our wonderful librarians, Melisa and Morgan are notifying the public regarding open hours.

Treasurer Ben Sadler has been holding down the fort at City Hall, fielding calls and keeping the business of the city moving.

Kathy and Liesl are out of town, but doing important tasks to support all of us in our efforts.

Johan and Leah and the volunteers are checking on people and as always, are ready to respond to any emergencies.

Ian and Syd have been busy shoveling off roofs and clearing the DRC yard; they  shoveled the roof at City Hall and today they made a huge effort towards saving our beloved picnic shelter at Salmon River Park.

The DRC is open for regular hours on Saturday, January 10. The  Community Chest remains closed until further notice.

These are tough times for all of us, and people are naturally getting a bit cranky. Let's all keep a smile on our face and think happy thoughts about spring while we shovel yet another path or roof. I appreciate each and every one of you, so take care of yourself and each other.
